Vizzaneta
Vizzaneta is a pretty village in the Val di Lima that once was also called Forra because of the way it winds between streams and ridges.
In the past, being at the border between the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Duchy of Modena, Vizzaneta welcomed travellers and pilgrims in the numerous structures that arose over the years. The most important building of the village is definitely Villa Tondinelli, whose construction seems to date back to 1500. It spreads over three floors and it has a peculiar L-shape and a slightly sloping private garden. In the main farmyard of the village there are the old washhouse, on which is carved the Florentine lily and which was used by local women until a few years ago, and a stone fountain, on which the Medici coat of arms makes a fine display.
Leaving the country and walking along the ancient road you can meet two religious buildings: the oratory of San Paolo and the oratory of Sant’Anna. Both are very old and it is even believed that the oratory of Sant’Anna is one of the oldest in the Pistoia mountains. Moreover, it contains precious frescoes of the eighteenth century.
